I have a land rover freelander v6 es. The steering tends to go towards the left every time I let go of the steering wheel even in a flat even surface. the tire pressure is all the same. I've asked a friend who also owns a freelander and he said it also tends to go left with his vehicle also. What do you think is the problem and how much would you think it would cost to have it fix?

Hi

You need to be checking the track rod end, the bottom ball joint and bush, the wheel bearing, and the shock absorber, all on the left hand side.

You could take it to have the tracking checked and they may notice something whilst checking it if you mention it to them.

Cheers

Geordie

Try driving it down the centre of the road.

Most roads are "crowned" - ie. the centre is higher than the sides, so that water runs off to the sides.
All cars will follow this slightly, and need a little correction every now and again.
If you can find a clear stretch of road where you can safely drive along the crown and the car still veers left, you have a problem (possibly tracking, possibly a seized brake or worn wheel bearing).

This is an alignment problem.. To be honest freelanders use a flimsy steering system that can come un aligned really easily. Take it to the nearest tire and break center they can usually re align it.. It shouldn't be more than 150$ tops..

You bought a fuel guzzling, middle class, school run tractor.

maybe it was bad choice to by an off road vehicle that only drives on suburban tarmac roads.

from what you describe your nearside front track rod has too much tow out. take it to a tyre centre and ask them to check the tracking. the check is free but adjustment cost about £ 10 per side. maclaren.

This happens with all cars. You may need to have it re-alligned. It shouldn't cost much. Just take it to your mechanic and tell them it is pulling to one side. They will know what to do.
