But, should we be so hung up about an age gap between two people ?

Consider beautiful women like:
Julianne Moore (age 46)
Susan Sarandon (age 60)
Helen Mirren (age 61)
Twiggy (age 57)
Deborah Harry (age 62)
Barbara Streisand (age 65)

If a man was younger than any of these women, would you consider this to be inappropriate, if so...why - how much of an age gap between two people do you think is too much ?

point to note - I am only referring to people over the age of consent.

Chronological age is not as much a factor in relationships as maturity levels. As long as the maturity levels are compatible it truly is no one else's business.
Peace.

I am 19 and in an age gap relationship, and people that turn their noses up are the ones that have probably never been in love. Love has no boundries, love makes everything else fly out of the window and without realising it you can fall in love with someone that you never thought you would fall in love with. I think in todays day and age people need to be more open minded and less oppressed by the limitations that society has put on us in the past, although there are many open minded people out there-some people are still quite backward thinking and a lot has changed in society. I think age doesnt matter, as long as you get on with the person. Yes, it can sometimes cause problems if you let it, but all relationships have their ups and downs.

I'm eighteen years old and I love older men.Anthropological evidence shows throughout history this has always been the case.I don't really understand frowning apon it-it's human nature.Men went for females who were more fertile hence younger and girls went for men that were older for maturity and security.I'm anything but a goldigga.I'm putting myself through college doing a singles honours degree in english literature.I can't truly respect men my age or rather boys, they seem shallow one dimensional and manipulative out to get some and i'm not into that and i'm not stupid enough to fall for it.Older men have this wonderful calming presence on me,they're secure and theres a sense of peace in that and the ultimate deciding factor is that they have wisdom and experience that can help you blossom and grow as a person to become that which you envision and are destined to be .This is only applicable of course to those mature gents! It's all about the peace they give you!

What's the goal with the relationship? Share a life together or an impulsive moment in time?

Who care’s if it’s a “Quickie” (& both accepts this & wants this).

Those who want to “Share a life” … well, life is cyclical. This means that men on average live till they are 75 years old and women live to 80 years old. So, if you’re hung up on the “Notebook” and having a death near each other … technically the woman should marry a man who is 5 years younger than her.

Realistically, women tend to marry men older than them for maturity purposes. So, lets say she marries a man who’s 5 years older than she. This means she will have around 10 years of being old and fragile alone. As a “Financial Planner” we’d used to sell “Long-Term Health” to the woman based off this. Face it, a 70-year-old woman doesn’t have a huge dating pool … nor does she have the life force to shop for health insurance.

Now, there are the men who love the young chicks. We saw 60-year-old men marring 20-year-old women (Anna Nicole) … only the rich men were able to keep their marriage barely. We all saw Anna Nicole was on the tipping point of leaving her husband when he was terminally ill. This also happens with age differences with 10 years (30 year old & 20 year old). Much of this is the biological sex drive causing the younger partner to be frisky. So, as the Financial Planner in these situations, the “Long Term Health” was sold to both the young and old … as statistically, it was deemed that the older one would die alone (or with help from children) and the younger one would too be more likely to spend their twilight years alone. Ah, I had more pose when presenting, and usually didn’t point out the statistics of failure (although this was discussed in office behind closed doors with colleges).

So, my biggest beef with different age dating is keeping the dignity of the elderly in the twilight of their life. IMO, leaving a person when they’re terminally ill is a HUGE crime against love. Large differences in ages often leads to this crime against love.

If he were under 25 I would. There is just something mildly skanky about a very young man and a much, much older woman. Especially if the young man has not established himself in the world and does not have a steady job or career. Which I think is the main objection.

Things are changing so that even a very young woman needs to have a job or career when she starts dating a much older man. Because that looks skanky too.

Often so but a worrying age gap is if one of them is under the age of consent and the other one is old enough to know better

I don't have a problem with age gaps unless they are very inappropriate like a 14 years old with a 40 year old. However I think my son would find it strange if I dated someone of his age and he would find it odd if I dated someone his age. In fact he would probably giggle.

My wife is 9 years older than me. You wouldn't know it by looking at her but it is also generally a bad idea to base your relationship on looks. Some people are surprised by the difference while other people think nothing of it. I'm shooting for 80 or older and I just want her there for the ride.

Love transcends age and looks but most people don't understand d that.

I don't think that ages really is that big deal.. as long as these younger men genuinely love them and accepts them for who they are and at the same time understanding the possible effects of the woman being older
