No it just means you have local access which means you can only share files. You would have to buy an internet service to get the internet on it.

Where overseas? Maybe just turn your smartphone into a mobile wifi hotspot? Maybe get a wireless pay-as-you-go dongle to connect to the Internet (obviously costs money).

No, you still need an ISP for your router. If your close enough to someone else's wireless network you can "leech" off theirs; aslong if there is not a password.

A wireless router simply means you have less cable clutter. Now if you're close enough to someone who has wireless service and no pass word, you can "borrow" from them.
