I don't know definatively but I'd say it's to make the game "fair" to both sides. If they didn't switch sides, team (A) could complain that team (B)'s hoop is bigger or the goal is lower the 3-point line and foul line are closer or any other number of retarded things.
Also, I would imagine that they also do it for the fans that are sitting under the baskets, so that they can see both teams up close.

because some wimppy basketball players complained about one side of the court was not as good as shooting as the other
the basketball assicition decided they should switch sides at half time so everyone has a fair chance
just like in football

Facing different sides for advantages. The crowd behind the rim. The bench and coaches on the sides of each back court.

In case the home team's basket was rigged, or if there was a really obnoxious fan sitting on one side. That way, the losing team cannot complain that they got the worse basket, or that some fan made them lose

Just in case Kobe drops 81 on one side they want to make sure both teams have an equal chance.

the lights might come into play, or the type of court youre playing on. the best answer would be that so both teams get to be called by both refs

it makes it fair. or at least provides proof that if one side was "better" or "easier" than the other, it doesn't matter because both teams have a chance to play on that side.

They do that in all sports. It is for the fans at the games so they can see both teams offense and defense.

just to make it fair.
- both teams shoot two quarters on the one net, two on the other. both teams using both nets.
- maybe theres like some jerkoff fan who bothers the team from one baseline.
