If the honeycomb inside your cat box has broken up it certainly wont pass an emmisions test unless your car was built pre 1993 ( Early K registration or before ). Cars built before 1993 can pass with a much higher emmsions rate. Before parting with lots of hard earned cash for a replacment have you looked at the heat shield around the cat box ( metal sheeting stuck to the underside of the car ). They tend to come loose and cause a rattle if they can rest on the cat box. Try gently pushing the exhaust around ( while its cold ) and see if it touches anywhere on the body, if so could just be a few quid for a new exhaust rubber or to realign your exhaust.

If the cat is more than the price of the car, your car is only worth about 200 or less.
Unless you have 2 cats, there is nothing more to do than get it replaced.
The down pipe should be separate, but you may have a hole in it from being plugged so long.
Replace the cat and you will pass the MOT emmissions test.

The only relevant part of the test is the emissions part. You may be lucky and find the car will pass anyway - perhaps you could get a garage to put their sniffer on the tailpipe for you & check.

Depends how badly its gone. You may be able to get away with it for a while but its only gonna get worse. If its quite bad then it prob wont get through the emmisions test. When getting a new one, shop around you may be able to get an aftermarket one rather than going to the main dealer so saving a couple of hundred quid.

Take the car for the MOT and hope it passes on emissions. New cats are very expensive and can be more than the cost of the car. Very unlikely that the cat has collapsed.

It won't pass the MOT as the emissions will be too high for the type of vehicle

IT will probable fail, they do a strict emissions test now. Or, book a pre MOT, about £11, that will save you the hassle.

it won't pass mot as emissions reading will be too high.so you will need to get it fixed before mot. alternatively get it mot'd it will fail on the cat and maybe other things (hope not) , get them all fixed within 14days and you will get a free retest from the mot garage

Exhaust system parts are inexpensive...in comparison to the car itself.
I've seen mufflers go for as little as $50 (plus labour).
