I've read several spy thrillers by Alan Furst this past year. His genre is historical espionage - most of his work that I have read takes place in and around WWII. They are however, not war thrillers in the classic sense. They are stories stories of average people in exceptional circumstances. They are dark, often murky, but always taut and full of twists and turns. Real page turners. Check out the link to his website below.

Jeff Abbott is a favourite of mine - try 'Kiss Gone Bad' and 'Black Jack Point'- absolutely brilliant. Also try some Phil Rickman - his Merrily Watkins series about a female vicar (who also happens to be the excorcist for the Diocese of Hereford) are a must as well as all of his others such as man in the Moss, The Challice and Crybbe all of which will have you sitting on the edge of your seat!

If you like reading non-fiction, about what goes on nowadays - I recommend these two -

1) "Under the Loving Care of the Fatherly Leader"
written by Bradley K. Martin

2) "Rogue Regime"
written by Jasper Becker

These two well-written books give an insight about the North Korean Government.

Fiction?

Try all the books written by Clive Cussler.

The hero is Dirk Pitt, with his sidekick Al Giordino. These are well-written.

I'll assume you're about 17. If you haven't read 1984, you should. It's a thriller, and perhaps the most important book in the World since it came out in 1948.

James Patterson is an excellent thriller writer. Along came a spider is one, but he has written many others, they are real page turners, one of those, "oh i'll just read the next chapter, then turn out the light", next thing you know it's 2.00 am!
