This sadly is false information given to pregnant women alot.. Your baby has a better chance of surviving the longer it is in the womb before birth. Which is why most doctors don't induce a woman before 38 weeks even though the baby's considered full-term at 37. At 7 months your baby has about a 40-50% chance of survival.. because it's lungs are just barely able to work if it were born.. There is something called Surfactant which prevents the baby's lungs from sticking together as it tries to breathe, the longer the baby is in the womb the more it has and the more mature it's lungs will be.. And the more chances it will have of being able to breathe on it's own when it's born. Also the baby doesn't have alot of fat, newborn babies are not able to regulate their temp. very well, they need the fat the get while in the womb to help them stay warm. At 7 months the baby is still pretty thin... If you've ever seen a NICU (the intensive care for premature babies) you would see just how untrue the rumor that babies born at 7 months have better chances of survival than those born later really is.. I hope this information helps..

Well first of all, The question that you aked had different projections...
First the baby that is 8 months, has a better chance, due to more fat, etc...lungs, final touches, skin, eyes, etc....all the last tri-mester stuff that your baby is supose to receive from you...
Now at 7 months, yes the baby could survive, but might need more help, and the chances of your baby surviving is 50-50 chance....
My daughter was born almost at 7 months, she arrived to me at 2 1/2 months early.... We went through hell and back as it seems.... But it was very scarry..
I went through pre-clampsa, soo....not only I could have died but my daughter could have died inside of me and out of me...
My mom had it, my sister had it, and I had it...
The say that boys, have a less chance of surviving then girls... I don't know exactly why this is, but I never looked into it since I had a girl....
The NIC, is not the place where you want to end up, but if you have to go, let them do all that they can, ask questions, show up all the time, at different times of the day, keep your faith and cry your tears, I did and there were many nights, Where I just sat there and cried with her in my arms.
Watching her sats(her trying to breath), her oxygen level...etc...There has been many times when she stopped breathing, etc...I just sat there a prayed....I hope you the best for all the mothers out there. This is a scarry time for u and your child, so if you child makes it, good luck to you and if they don't, get all the support your going to need, I been through it and it's hard.

I've actually heard about this too. Especially in Europe that's what doctors tell you all the time, so I do believe that babies that are born at 7 month have more chance of being healthy than babies that are born at 8 month.

Not heard that, but if I look at my birthday calendar, I have more family/friends birthdays in July & December than any other month. I have always put this down to people getting into the Christmas spirit for July and being hit by the winter blues for December!

You have to be careful with statistics and other numbers. Consider the following examples. 98% of all crimes occur within 24 hours of eating bread. Children in the lower half of test scores eat bread with their meals. Nearly all obese people eat bread. Most poor people eat bread.
As you can see, eating bread might appear to be a bad idea. That's just an example of really bad use of statistics. Though the information is true, it doesn't lead to correct conclusions. Be careful of any statistics. The next thing you know, people who wear clothes might have a tendency to work for a living.
Good luck!

That's not true. But I bet infants born during the week have a better chance than those on the weekend, because hospitals make more mistakes on the weekends.
