What does FG stand for and why is it on the back of the penny?




My guess is 'federal government' but I have a feeling that's not it.

It's the initials of the designer Frank Gasparro, if you get a jeweler's loupe, and look under the shoulder of Lincoln, you'll see the letters VDB, that's the initials of the designer of the front of the coin Victor D. Brenner.
