The chances of a slice of bread (toast) falling with the buttered side up is directly proportional to the cost of ones carpet.

Coz it's sod's law !
The side with butter will be ever so slightly heavier, so gravity pulls it down faster, thus resulting landing first (face down) or something. Didn't some company get given like millions to research this ? What a waste of cash !

It doesn't...try tying a slice of buttered toast to the back of a cat and then see which way up it lands when dropped.

cause the butter makes it sightly heavier.
Heres one for you though if a cat always lands on its feet and toast always lands butterside down what would happen if you buttered the back of a cat lol

You're lucky if you can find it in the first place to put the butter on after it has been ejected from the toaster, and could quite frankly have landed anywhere in the kitchen.

the weight of the butter most likely weighs it to fall down face down is a good guess.

It's not really a bad thing. You're less likely to eat it if the butter picks up crud off the floor. It probably saves you from the runs.

You have an inviolable elf who does that to punish you for not putting jelly on your toast instead of butter.
