In the majority of children, it is most intensely focused around the period from one-and-a-half to three years of age.

It's funny, when my daughter was 1 1/2 I complained to my aunt about the terrible twos starting at that age! She laughed at me. She said that they don't really start until 3, so be prepared. And she was right. Every age has it's challenges, and your child gets older and smarter, so her challenges get more difficult.
For example. Our biggest struggle at the 2 year mark was teaching her the rules. By the time she understood what standing in the corner meant, and what mom really wants her to do, she has popped up into the terrible 3's.
This is the defiant age. The child understands what the rule is and is deciding that the crime is worth the punishment.
My daughter has just turned 4 and she understands playing mom against dad. She understands sneaking the thing she isn't supposed to have. She also has started fibbing.
So, I will trade you if you want. Teaching the rules and the consequences is just the first step in a 20 year process!
Knuckle down and get it done before she learns the next step and you haven't finished with this one....because then it will truly be terrible!

The terrible two's come as a result of the inability to communicate effectively. Encourage more using words not just pointing and screaming. You can also try some sign language to help him get his point across.

there's no established period of time, it's just a phase. I guess boys are a little rougher than girls but I think at then end it all comes down to love, disiplione and respect taught by parents.

terrible 2's,3's,4's,5's- then off to school....Lol...
Each year they grow and each year they get taller and smarter...so good luck.... it just depends on how you parent them.... They are looking for direction, but at the same time, they are seeing on how far they can push you and what they can get away with...

it is different for every child regardless of boy/girl. They are trying to learn so many new things, speech/communication is probably what would frustrate them most. One of my kids was awesome through 2s but horrible through 3s. I think they just get frustrated and we just have to be calm and be there for them to help them through it.
