My girl and I where having a conversation some months back about my racial make up. I told her I knew I was mixed but i was mostly black. I'm dominican and she is a white cuban. She's a blonde hair blue eyed white cuban. Her family tree can be traced back to spain or at least thats what she was told. She said I should get a DNA test to find out and it'll be nice to know. So I said we should both get one. But a couple days ago we got the results back. My test revealed i'm 40% european so I was mostly black like I thought. I was cool with the results. My fiancee results read she was 21% african. She was upset. She has been depressed all week. No one in her family looks black at all. But she don't believe she is white anymore. How can I help her because she is still white to me?

Try to find out why her ancestral race is so important to her. Does she think it defines her as a person? Was she happy with herself before the test? Tell her it's her heart and soul that makes her the wonderful girl she is, not what kind of blood is running through her veins.

Another thing, is the DNA test 100% accurate? Have you researched the company that did the tests to find out if it is a legitimate scientific organization? I've posted a link to an article you might find interesting .

Well, lets talk stupidity - Under the old rules of the South in the USA a person could be as little as 1/32 ***** and would be classified as *****. Under most reasonable counts, if you want you can claim a majority rules: 51% (or maybe 50.001%). As far as discrimination is concerned it is appearance no matter what the blood might show.
A number of my friends are able to recite a litany of something like "20% Black, 30% Cherokee, 20% Scots, 10% German, 20% Polynesian"
But, in fact, who the hell cares?????????????
If we manage to live through the mess we are making of the earth, everyone is going to be a nice Brazilian milk chocolate brown.
The only possible reason I can think of being concerned is whether there is any genetically linked disease that might be carried, like hemophelia for certain white populations and sickle cell anemia for certain black populations.
[and that picture to the left is me, Anglo-Saxon-German if it makes any difference.]

help her by understanding that she is feeling a bit mental at moment. the results mean she has found out something about herself that she didnt know. i'm no genetic expert but if she is 20% African then that probably means one of her grandparents was African which does not necesarily mean they were black as there are plenty of white Africans.
She was probably expecting nothing out of the ordinary but now her heads all over the place, maybe you two should explore her past a bit more as i reckon she needs/wants a few answers.

What's wrong with being white?? Why is it such a suprise? She knew she had a trace of it in her. I can think of a million different things to be upset about other than that. Tell her to get used to it whether her family looks white or not. Just tell her to face the facts.

What does it matter that she is 21% african? Who cares. Something wrong with her if she is depressed about THAT. It doesn't change a damn thing. Tell her to grow up.

I'm disappointed...
you should have known - the attitiude, the booty

Get her a blood tranfusion to get all the black blood out before she starts listening to rap music

Does it really matter? Its whats inside that makes a person the one we love, cherish, adore. I would suggest dropping the issue and enjoy the love you each share.

you shouldn't convince her that she is white, you should make her happy about what she is. Being part african is not somthing to be sad about....

why should heritage, ethnic background have anything do with anything.. you love someone for who they are not what they are.. love is looking at the inside not the outside..
