Staying at a non-Disney hotel or other lodging nearby won't be a realistic option for you. All of Disney's hotels are located within the Disney resort, which is many square miles of private property. The main access to these resorts and theme parks are busy highways. It would be difficult and dangerous for you to walk on them, and in fact it might not be permitted. The Swan and Dolphin Resorts are pretty expensive too, so those don't sound like a good option for you either.
A better option for you would be to consider booking a room at one of the less expensive Disney resorts. The economy resorts include the Pop Century, All-Star Movies, All-Star Music, All-Star Sports, or Grosvenor. Whereas the Yacht Club can cost between $199 and $755 a night, these other resorts can cost under $100 a night, sometimes as low as $79. Then you have the added benefit of being able to use the Disney transportation buses to get to your conference. To go from one Disney resort hotel to another would require a transfer at a Disney hub, like the one at the Magic Kingdom or Downtown Disney. Due to this fact, I would suggest that you stay at the Grosvenor. It is located next to Downtown Disney, and you could easily walk there to catch a bus directly to the Yacht Club. It's also walking distance to non-Disney shopping and cheaper food options. (McDonald's, Burger King, Taco Bell, Waffle House, as well as non-chain restaurants.) But the Grosvenor also has packages that include a dinner buffet with the cost of your hotel room. It's a prime rib buffet, and it's very good. Their website is www.grosvenorresort.com if you want to check them out. You have to contact them directly because while they operate as a Disney resort, they are managed by another hotel company - you can't book with them through Disney reservations.

The only hotels that are 'walking distance' from the Yacht/Beach Club are the Boardwalk (which is about the same price as Y&B), and the Swan & Dolphin.
Both the Swan & the Dolphin are not directly run by Disney, so the possibility exists that you could get cheaper rooms there through Priceline.com.
All other hotels, whether Disney run or outside the park, would require you to have a rental car (or be transported by taxi). There is no direct bus transportation from the Yacht Club to other hotels. (You can walk to Epcot's 'back door' enterance from the Yacht Club, then go through the park to the front gate and pick up a bus back to your Disney resort, but that would require admission to the park, and arriving at the Yacht Club via the same way wouldn't work unless the conference starts late since the park opens at 9am).
A good hotel for you might be the Coronado Springs in Disney. It's relatively close to the Yacht club. It's a convention hotel, so it has a relatively lower ratio of kids than other hotels on property, as well as amenities that other of their moderates don't have (business center, health club, etc).
I have found that traffic inside the WDW boundaries to be not bad. So a hotel just outside the parks (but not on International Drive) could be relatively convenient.

Just as previously stated, perhaps one of your best options will be staying at a Disney Value Resort such as any of the All-Star Hotels, then take the free bus transportation to the Disney's Yacht Club Resort. Staying at an All-Star hotel might cost you about $100/night. However you will be right inside disney property with Free Transportation to where you need to go plus the Disney Parks.
Now if you want to go cheaper than that, you might then want to stay at a hotel off Disney Property. Based on the location of the Disney's Yacht Club, I recommend, if you choose this option, staying at a Hotel in the 192 area near the "Maingate" to Disney, so that you will be only a couple miles from where you need to go. If you have your own means of transportation it will be even better as it will save you the cost of Taxis, but then again, a Taxi from a Hotel around the 192 Maingate area to the Yacht Club, might only cost you $10-$15 each way. If you're interested, we are a Tour Operator here in the area and we offer Accommodations at both Disney Hotels and Hotels right outside of Disney, including the 192 Maingate area. the final hotel in Disney international is arguable. the three inns that are in the monorail equipment is the Polynesian, Grand Floridian and the modern-day. The Grand Floridian is great for adults besides the undeniable fact that it kind of has a snooty ecosystem and that i don't sense like this is very well worth the money. besides the undeniable fact that, the grounds of the hotel are alluring. The modern-day is at present present day technique shape and it may well be once you're traveling considering you're getting in February. i've got faith they're increasing yet another part of the hotel to make room for time shares. many human beings compliment the Polynesian and it does have alluring grounds however the hotel itself is between the oldest on Disney property. many human beings additionally say it feels very small and cramped. besides the undeniable fact that, this is closest to the Magic Kingdom and it does have a small sea coast section you could circulate on and walk around. you won't be able to no longer circulate in the water however. besides the reality that this is no longer part of the monorail equipment i want to propose the desolate tract hotel. this is precise close to the different 3 inns besides the undeniable fact that this is going to outfitted greater at present and not extra onto the monorail. The Wildnerness hotel has remarkable eating place, a heat ecosystem and this is greater present day so as this is great. The surely have a great pool section and a real working gyser. in case you reside there you could take a boat to and from the Magic Kingdom yet you could desire to take buses to and from the different parks. Have a great holiday!

Join your country's version of AAA (look ours up at AAA.com). You can get a ncie discount at the hotel where the conference is. You may want to try some of the hotels by downtown Disney...then you can stll use the bus system to get to resort (if you don't want to rent a car).
You can also try the cheaper value resprts, too...that is a creative alternative...

Try the Swan or Dolphin hotel.
It is right next to the Yacht club and is a bit less expensive.
The Yacht Club is WONDERFUL and has a great pool, so if you could get a second job to save us some cash, it is worth staying there! Heck...just stay for one night and stay somewhere else the rest of your vacation!!
