It is always possible! See might not be knowing this but there are alternate civilizations on earth and mars, { According to the theory that life itself is an alien }. When life was in amoebic form on earth , maybe it is possible that the "then"
Martians helped our ancestors survive, but to their own tragedy vanished and today we again find water in Mars. But it seems your friend is last of the survivors.
However, there is one problem here that even if your alien survived, still he should have extraordinary potential to survive billion years!
It is like when you unwrap a mummy, he comes out and says, "what are looking at , you fool! bow for me!"

Does the Martian look a lot like humans, brown, wearing clothes, has a circular head, and all other things that resemble a human?Then I'll say that you are in desperate need of sleep 'cause you may mistake your roommate to be 'a alien from mars'

If you say that an alien from Mars is residing with you then I would ask you "do you call him uncle Martin"? "Does he have antennae that come out of his head that make him invisible?" and "is his wrecked spaceship in your garage?
If yes I'd say you fell asleep with the TV on during a
TV- LAND marathon showing of MY FAVORITE MARTIAN.

life on Mars could have been in very primitive form 4bln years ago
so, it's either the alien is from another planet which must be located outside our solar system, or you are crazy

Is it a quadruped with Greenish Gray scales, that have a very feint luminescence to it, because if it's one of those aliens then chain him up outside those hard calcified nodules aren't poop there eggs and if you don't want to be up to your neck in those things then i suggest you smash them with a hammer because nobody wants a alien life form throwing our already damaged environment out of whack.
