I purchased a car some weeks ago and was doing some work on the interior this morning when i came accross a bag stuffed down the back of the rear seat.

Upon opening it i found a ski mask a pair of leather gloves and a large quantity of cash,i have banked the cash already but just wanted to know how should i get rid of the mask and gloves and is there any chance whoever left it there can trace me to get the money back.

I am very concerned they will come round and try to get there money back.

Not turning the cash over to the police was a criminal offence...
That aside, turn them (the mask & gloves over) over to the cops, and they may let you keep the cash...though I doubt it.
Not doing anything...if you tend to be a particularily unlucky sort, could lead to a slew of charges, not the least of which would be tampering with (or destruction of) evidence.

However, if you come clean right away, and tell them which bank you deposited the cash into, they can probably recover the cash if it is indeed illegally obtained...you can probably expect to see a verbal slap on the wrist and possibly a finder's fee/reward. If the cash is part of a crime where the statute of limitations has passed, you *may* be permitted to keep it...depends on the law in your jurisdiction.

Now, if you're exceptionally lucky, the cash is "clean", by law, you still need to turn it over, and after 90 days, if it hasn't been claimed, it is yours, free and clear.

As for the bad guys tracking you down...that is a slim possibility...especially if the cash was an exceptionally large amount. For a small amount, it would be unlikely they'd bother.

You will also be interested to know that in some jurisdictions, large cash deposits and withdrawls are traced and reported to the authorities.

So..... you're openly admitting on the web that you've banked illicit gains, and you're not worried that your bank manager may wonder where the unusual amount of cash came from?

Somehow I don't think you would bank the cash, I think you would stash it inconspicuously until you were sure danger had passed, and if the car was used in the acquisition of the cash, then you have possibly purchased a stolen car.

Maybe you could sell the gloves and mask on Ebay as "used in robbery" and maybe you'll get something for them.

Or maybe you could tell your stories elsewhere.

Maybe??

Don't worry about it. The car probably went through an auction house and many other hands. There are laws so the people selling the car cannot tell who bought it or where they live. You purchased the car with everything in it. The goggles, gloves AND money are legally yours now. Finders keepers!!

Lucky dude!!! First, they can trace you since you purchased the car & got receipt/invoices. Robbers don't use ski mask, they use stocking. Better burn the evidence & call it quits. When you say large quantity of cash, do you mean LARGE? Cause there would be news about it & cops would be investigating on it. As any bogart would tell you, get the hell out of there & spend the money like crazy. Donate it to charity.

You do realise that if the money was stolen from a bank or somewhere just as important the money can be traced through the serial numbers. Good luck talking your way out of that one if you try to spend it.

First thing I would do is call your local police and let them now how you found the mask and gloves. Think about it, they are not yours so what's the worry. Let the police do there job and find the culprit who committed the crime. If this person is in jail ,how can he find you. Sometimes it pays to be a good Samaritan. Key word pays. Good luck.

Had the lot into the police - the car is probably on the stolen list and if so then there is nothing you can do to get your money back. Obviously it was used for a robbery.

Ask OJ Simpson how to ditch a pair of gloves.

Burn the mask and gloves and deny all knowledge.
If anyone asks how you have managed to deposit a large sum of money in your bank account, then say you sold a kidney on ebay.

if the car cost you less than the money you found.sell it! that way you can say that you only bought it to resell & didnt take any notice what was in it..and you get money for the car..
dont forget to send me half!
burn the stuff somewhere quiet as your dabs are all over it as well..
