Stan Javier when he kept the ball in the ballpark robbing it and flipping it back in and summersaulting off the wall and diving and catching it.

Hands down, Willie Mays' over the shoulder catch of Vic Wertz deep fly to center field in game 1 of the 1954 world series. Excerpted from the link:
"Game 1 was held at the Polo Grounds and the fans in attendance witnessed what is considered by many to be the greatest defensive play in World Series history. With the opener tied at 2-2 (in the eighth) and two Cleveland runners on base, Willie Mays made a spinning, over-the-shoulder catch (of a 460-foot smash from Vic Wertz) in deep centerfield and fired a bullet to the infield that held the runners from tagging up and scoring."
As Comic Book Guy would say: "Best. Catch. Ever."

Mickey Mantle's running over the shoulder catch in center field. Last year Aaron Rowand did an over the shoulder catch and ran into the center field wall. Some guy on the Rangers climbed the wall and did a no look catch last year too. There are a lot of good catches in baseball's history, I don't think you can narrow it down to just one.

The over-the-shoulder basket catch made by Willie Mays in the 1954 World Series off of Vic Wertz. There's a reason that one is still called "The Catch."
Any catch made up against a wall should be considered ineligible for this title, and therefore bogus. . . .

How could one ever single out which catch was the best in baseball history which is for over 100 years. No records are kept of "best catches," and there have been MANY in the game for over a century. Not a good question!!

Jim Edmonds made this stunning, running away, JUMPING no-look catch in center field a few years ago. Definite highlight material.
I'm kinda partial to Mientkiewicz's walk-off catch of Foulke's little lob-toss to first base to retire Renteria, 27-Oct-2004, myself.
