We can't. We are trying to force a democracy on people who have no interest in having one. We should just turn things over to the Iraqi government, and hopefully this will be a lesson to us not to stick our noses where it doesn't belong.

It depends on your definition of "victory" in Iraq. If you were to put this in terms of WWII, we saw no signing on a battleship after the fall of Saddam. What we got was a collection of Islamic factions that are totally bent on killing each other. Contrast that with the German or Japanese people! They cooperated because: 1) They are civilized. 2) They wanted prosperity instead of Islamic law. 3) They appreciated the freedoms we take for granted. Victory in Iraq can be defined as the day the Iraqi government can survive without help (and blood) from us. We will never secure Iraq as long as the Iraqis refuse to cooperate and stop butchering each other.

that is a great point..that is why I think the way out of Iraq is through the Kurd area..
insurgents won't be tolerated..and we are still close to Iran..which IMHO..is the primary reason we are lurking there
not just trying to help with .nation building.
think about it..we are in Afghan..w/ Pakistan and their nukes next door..Musharraf on shakey ground..and Iraq..w/ Iran right there

With todays war rules and political correctness this type of war can not be won...Throughout history when occupation type wars were fought there was two ways they were won...
1) Hearts and minds...
example Alexander the Great in Persia.
2) Kill everyone that gets in your way...
the insurgents do not care about themselves but they do care about their families...The only way to win a war like this is to kill the whole families of any insurgents found to be fighting against the Iraq and US forces.
This type of war would never be allowed today so the war can not be won.
Sorry

It's all just a lot of talk because this admin will not leave Iraq until we are either able to claim"victory" or blame someone else for the fiasco.

Colin Powell told the President that if we invaded Iraq, we'd own it for 30 years, and, he was correct.

According to Bush, it will take centuries. But it will be worth it, that is as long as you have possession of the right stock.

We have two options as far as I can tell.
OPTION 1 - Cut and run as the liberals want.
OPTION 2 - Declare Martial Law.
