years ago I felt him to be arrogant just shows you how wrong you can be about someone.

I think when he was playing, he was unable to contain his emotions, what you saw is what you got. He was always worth watching

When he was a player he was your oh so very typical spoilt-brat upper middle class American kid with a collosal ego and his ambition out of control.
I have met many of these kids but McEnroe was a tennis star making huge sums of money so he was even more spoilt,arrogant and obnoxious than your ordinary run of the mill mall-brat.
Recently he has shown himself to be a little better behaved. Perhaps he is finally growing up -it's about time.
But I can't forgive him the embarrassment he caused me and many others. Every time he started in screaming at some poor guy, trying to humilliate somebody who coudn't retaliate, I used to feel awful. I stopped watching tennis because certain media began to glorify this kind of disgusting behaviour.

He was a pleasure to watch always entertaining and not afraid to speak his mind. I didnt find it arrogant because on quite a few occasions he was justified in his rantings.
i guess people found him arrogant cos Tennis was always viewed as a calm game for "ladies and Gentlemen" and people saw his outbursts as ungentleman like...

He was always a very passionate person, he himself put it down to his Irish ancestory but love him or hate him you have to admit he is one of the all-time greats

He was a great tennis player at his prime. To bad he couldn't control temper while playing. :)
