I think people should be able to pay for their own health care but with the cost of getting it on their own if your employer does not provide insurance as so many of them are opting to do, because these insurance companies are robbing you blind, then maybe the only way to lower costs is for the government to figure out a way to do reinsurance for catastrophic illness, which the insurance companies claim cause rates to rise the way they do

Whether we adopt a government model, or modify our existing capitalistic model the answer is the same. The American people will. Either directly or indirectly. So the question becomes should 'I' pay for my health care, or should all tax paying citizens share in paying for my health care. Now that is where it gets interesting. Remember, welfare failed because free money promotes dependency and abuse. Think it through. Tread carefully people!!

The people of the United States, meaning a portion of their incomes assisted by the govt (I do not support socialism but this is getting way out of hand when people with cancer cannot afford painkillers or life-saving treatments)... or maybe the Christian Right can take their funds used to lobby and strong-arm the political process and create a charity to help pay for health care (of course, they DON'T have to, but Jesus would have done that).

i kind of like having the option of deciding what health care i want to pay for. if the government provided it (while we all just paid for it with taxes) there wouldn't be any competition between providers to provide good care. the provider wouldn't have any incentive to make the quality of care any good. i like to be able to pick my doctor. even if my insurance isn't accepted by him, i still have the option of paying out o pocket. why is everyone so willing to hand over opportunity, freedom and option to the government all the time? or do they just not think about the fact that it would be handing over these things with the sparkling illusion of possibly saving a buck?

no matter where it comes from you will eventually pay for it.

If the government provides "free" health care, don't you think your taxes will go up to fund the health care? If you get it at work, you are paying for it out of your paycheck.

Everyone points to other country's and their health care that is free, but their tax rates are 50% of their income to help pay for all these so called "free" services.

Americans should get free universal health care like in Latin america .
if the goverment in 3 world countries ca afford it ,well America can too.
I mama got cancer ,doctor told her she will livwe one more year but she lived 12 years more !! ,she never paid a dollar to the care sistem in Uruguay !!!
so I wonder if a country like Uruguay ca do that to the citizens there ,why is it America can't!!!!
THAT is why third world countries are third world countries because the tax money is giving back to the people !!!!

The government. It is unfair that someone may be denied healthcare they desperately need because they can't afford it and that someone may be given preferential treatment because they are more well off.

The NHS isn't perfect but at least everyone has access to free healthcare if they need it. I'd rather pay higher taxes for healthcare that potentially helps everyone even if I do no not benefit from it. It's hard enough seeing someone suffer through a serious illness without them having to worry about money problems aswell.

It should be payed for by the idiot lawyers who drove up the cost of insurance by their lawsuits that won so much money. If doctors didn't have to carry so much insurance and if people didn't use emergency rooms as their primary health care physicians it would all change.

Actually we all pay for it now, no one is denied health care, so the service is performed, the people providing it are paid. If anyone doesnt think they already pay for the uninsured they are dreaming

"You will pay for it with your taxes!" How simplistic these people are. Taxes are not going to burden you so deeply that you'll starve. I don't know if anyone's noticed, but people are taxed on a level appropriate to their income and financial station in life. It's really funny how I know more rich people who complain about taxes than poor, working class people.
