I do remember the abuse he took well, even to the point of receiving death threats. In Aaron's case, however, race was much more of an issue than it was with Barry Bonds. Aaron endured what he did because racist idiots didn't want a black player to break the record.

Bonds, on the other hand, is having his career clouded by the steroid issue. The man also has a personality which does not exactly endear himself to people. So the "ordeal" Bonds is going through is self-inflicted, which was not the case with Aaron.

I remember it very well. My step-dad was from New England and always a Braves fan (out there, the Boston Braves were big) and before Aaron had 300 lifetime homers he and I followed his career. It wasn't all that garl-danged nice BEFORE he approached that record, either, by the way. There were racial incidents on and off all along. But when he got close, he had pressure just like Roger Maris AND the racial threats and language tossed at him. Hank said something, I don't remember what, and my racist step-dad hated him. But, as an Aaron fan from back in the early 60s, I followed him all the way.

OH -- and by the way, he always WAS a god!!

I'm a Dodgers fan, and just hoped he wouldn't break the record against them, but he did. He did take a terrible amount of abuse. Bonds is too, but much of it is of his own creation. His race is less of an issue than it was with Aaron. Thank God for that.

Now, if only Griffey hadn't been injured so much, Bonds would be chasing him too. And, I'm like a lot of people and can't wait for A. Rod to pass Bonds.

If anyone reads the papers today, it looks like Henry Aaron and Bud Selig are best of friends (or maybe more.....).

I will not discount any conspiracy against Barry Bonds by Mr. Aaron and Selig because maybe Hank makes Bud say..... "Oh Henry"!!!!!

If he breaks the record, so be it, until someone else does...... Maybe the cronyism between them will lead to people hating them as much as they hate Barry!

I wasn't alive so I can't remember it but from what I've heard an read it was brutal. He had to overcome all the bigotry to break it. Bonds "think" there is some racisim directed towards him but he doesn't know what Robinsion, Doby, Aaron and many others went through.

The haters were brutal with Aaron and I just wish he had stayed clear of the whole Bonds controversy. This is Selig's situation to handle and all former ballplayers don't need to prop up that fool by taking swipes at Barry.

Yea he took alot of abuse but that was because the babe was an American hero. and Hank was a black guy which is not right but thats how it was. The reason he is a hero now is because one people have gotten a little wiser and started to respect him for his talent and not for his color. but Barry bonds is a cheater and a lire thats why people hate him. i hope he never breaks it even though it's going to happen.
