I sit down with a pen and paper when watching movies and TV, it's how I found the name I fell in love with. Sometimes in shows they use names people don't always think about, you just have to keep your ears open.

Hmmm...my other way is searching through different web pages and reading any names that come up...Myspace may be a great place to do this, just start browsing. Y!A is a good place to do this too.

Also, about once a month I scan through the baby sections of the hospital pages..SOMETIMES I can find a really cute name, other times they're a little too out there for me.

Oh yeah and, you're already on the baby names section of Y!A, just ask people what some names are, that's kind of an unusual way of finding good names.

There is a baby born every 8 seconds in the US so it is fun to check what other people are using and you can easily do that on line. I think unless you name your poor kid toilet, then most names are used!
When picking a name it should go with a last name nicely, not doom a kid to spelling and explaining his or her name for life.......
When I thought about names for my baby (in the picture) I made a list of what I thought sounded good from reading news, watching TV and yes looking at a map! I also thought about books where the name brought the central character to life, I researched great Grandparents names and great great grandparents. Finally I had to decide on trendy (Dakota or Taylor) Family (Hunter or Pierce) or something new. I had fun naming him and watching the name wrap around him and become him.
Have fun
PS His name is Vance. He is Donny and Molly's little brother!

We just made sure we didn't name ours after any family members. That way, no other family member felt slighted.

How about using a blindfold and an out of town phone book. The fourth name down in the credits of a TV show or movie.

The drawback to pulling a name out of a hat is, you might name your daughter Stetson.

The census bureau has a list of the most popular names from the last hundred years. Scanning through that may help.

We chose the last name of a soccer player. No one has that name. We got the idea from a friend who chose the last name of a baseball player.

Pick about 10 and send them out to all of your friends and family. Let them vote to narrow it down to 2 and then pick from those.

You could name your baby after a place. Like where you and your partner met, where you went on your honeymoon if your married, one of your home towns, the most beautiful spot you've ever seen....
