Starting at New Orleans and going across to Las Angeles (dropping in at Vegas and the Grand Canyon also) and then going to San Francisco to see Alcatraz.
Does anyone have any must- see's along the way? We'd also go through Amarillo and Dallas...

In Amarillo, you might want to eat at the Big Texan (right on I-40) and then travel along old route 66 into New Mexico. You will be able to see a part of our heritage that is long gone except as memories.

The grand canyon is a great place to see. While in San Francisco, you can drive over the Golden Gate bridge, which is another site to see. About you question, it is better to say I am thinking I will go to the US an A would be better grammatically. Enjoy your trip.

You're driving? The scenery along the way is worth the trip by itself. The Hoover Dam east of Las Vegas is impressive.

You might want to check out the NASA stuff in Houston.
