Ok, so the bathroom is sooo tiny! But there is a pretty clawfoot tub that I want to use as the focal point. Well under the tub, there is this extra nasty carpet that I will be removing directly once I know exactly what to do about the floor under it. I was thinking maybe buying some cheap plates and breaking them to make a fun mosiac/tile flooring project. I also have a few of the smaller white kitchen tiles I might use instead. The problem is I don't really know how to go about tiling the floor at all. Does anyone know this process they can answer here or email me.... THANX!

Lift all the previous flooring and check for damp, IF ANY damp patches then dry the floor for a couple of days and apply a good sealer i.e Unibond 50% solution. I would suggest broken tile mosiac rather than plates due to very sharp edges. Buy a flexible floor tile adhesive and evenly about 5mm thick, spread about a 12" square of the adhesive onto the floor, push the broken pieces of tile into the adhesive leaving aproximately 3mm to 5mm spaces, very long and tiresom job but it will be worth it in the end. Choose a coloured or white grout and mix this to a batter like consistency and pour onto tiles, spread with a rubber squeegy in a criss cross manner making sure all cracks are filled. Try and move as much excess toward the empty joints as possible. Leave to dry for about half an hour and get a wet decorative sponge and wipe over the grouted areas. Do this in gentle circular motions. You may need to repeat this a couple of times to remove most of the excess. Once you are satisfied that most of the excess grout is removed let floor dry for a day or so. Polish off with a dry cloth to remove dusting layer from the finished floor. ALWAYS LET FRESHLY LAYED TILES DRY FOR 24 HOURS BEFORE ATTEMPTING TO GROUT THEM AS THEY WILL MOVE IF YOU ATTEMPT THIS BEFORE. Dale

Tiling a floor is a big project and you need to know what to do and have a special machine to cut tile. I also have a small bathroom and I just put down a good peel and stick tile which was a lot easier and cheaper and can be put over the existing floor especially if it is linoleum. You idea with plates would not work and would be hard on the feet a floor has to be flat. Hopefully you have a decent flooring under the carpet and you may be lucky to find decent wood flooring there.

Tiling of this nature isn't an easy do it yourself. Tiling requires specific measuring, cutting and grouting. Certainly I wouldn't consider trying to lay broken plates if I hadn't tiled before. A bathroom floor needs to be smooth and safe. Since your bathroom is small, consider hiring a pro. If you don't think you can afford, that then consider an easier flooring.
