Because there is no allowance for a differing opinion or free speech. The politically correct and the thought police need and will have{no matter what you think} a kinder, gentler BIG BROTHER controlled world, where no-one criticizes,or hurts any-one else's poor little feelings.Amazing how many wimps this country has managed to propagate in the last 30 years.

Ausblue I'm sorry that happened to you and I know you didn't deserve it as you have always been respectful and nice. I have been given violations for things before that didn't make sense while people get away with vulgarity and all kinds of obscenity on here so just try to figure that one out. I see absolutely nothing wrong with congratulating someone on here as I have done that with people as they make it to higher levels and never received a violation.

Actually, Yahoo merely "agreed" with someone who felt you were "chatting", a rather vague, overly-broad, catch-all violation.
I once offered a suggestion that Y!A have a new category "Meetings and Greetings", where members could post questions and answers like that.
Do you see it on here? Yeah, neither do I.
I am not afraid of "chatters", treating them as if they are some kind of villany

Yahoo needs to revamp their system ausblue. If someone is reported they need to check that question to see if it's a valid concern. If not, they should ignore it and not just believe that person who is doing the reporting.
It could be someone who is just being a creep and thinks they are funny by reporting innocent, nice people like you.
I'd say you should email the "powers" of yahoo and give 'em heck.

I don't know the same thing just happened to me in asking a question referencing a line from a Star Trek episode. It's pretty bizarre. Honestly I don't know where some peoples minds are!

I think that there are so many complaints in Yahoo that they don;t bother to investigate our answers or questions they just give us a violation for no good reason.... I have & have heard others too try to fight to get our pts back but Yahoo does not respond.. so it just takes one person to report you & bang..
sad but true... & I know how you feel like others we too have not in anyway violated the rules but.....

Sad fact of life, A Qld supporter probably did it in retaliation, Not the sort of thing I do, I am a QLD supporter but I do believe in good sportsmanship, so good on NSW, and down with the unsportsmanship of the QLD supporter who violated you.

Based on your question, I think one of the factors is that your question was a form of "chatting", which is against YA's rules and regulations. But do correct me if I'm wrong. I also got a violation once for ranting. lol.

I don't know! I said someone was old and got a violation! I hate Y!A sometimes...People report others for no reason sometimes and they believe them! I tried to email them telling them and asking them why did I get a violation but Its like saying nothing at all!

It may of been yahoo that gave you the violation but unfortunately it was someone else who didn't like the question you posted. People can be so childish.
