1st, I wanted something below $30K.
2nd, I wanted a car whose exterior design appeals to me.
3rd. I wanted a car that "responds" when I hit the gas and that enjoy driving.
4th. I wanted a "sedan" instead of a coupe because I tend to carry additional passengers ( I don't drink I do most of the social driving).
5. I wanted a car that has some neat features such as: electrically adjustable seats, visors with mirrors that have lights, power side view mirrors, and side view mirrors with turn signals integrated into them.
6. A car with decent to large trunck space.
7. A car with a projected long term reliabilty.
My last purchase was a 2007 Altima. I enjoy it immensely.
The "projected long term reliablity" I'll know about in 7 to 10yrs. My last car was a 1997 Maxima. That lasted exactly 10yrs and 200,051 miles!
I don't care about resale value because when I buy a car I'm expecting to keep it thru 200,000 miles. Over 200K miles, you won't get much resale value on any car, unless if you sell it piece by piece.
So, after 5& 1/2 months, I'm enjoying the Altima.

ive got a 98 citroen saxo (my first car) and only had 1500 to spend so price was the main thing, then what looked nicer/more modern than others in the same price range. didnt want a golf or 106/306 as they look boring and corsas look tired and too common. wanted smallish car so it was more practical to start with.
finally the colour - i wanted bright blue which is what colour my saxo is, looks really nice in the summer with the sun on it cos its metallic!

I do think about the country where they are made and decide if I want to support that economy. I am a fan of ethical trade as you can tell.
I tend to ignor looks, price, techs and buy from friends to help them out!

I'm in Los Angeles and my A - B is 60 miles everyday, so it was the gas mileage that made my decision, but if that wasn't the case I'd be driving something in SSracing's answer.....
I guess it all depends on where you live, what's your taste and how far you drive....But there's nothing like dependability.

Because it was an offer to good to miss. My ex-boss sold me a Peugeot 206 which was less than a year old for £2000. Couldn't say no really!!!
