If you look at America in the 1700's, you can find many. My choices would be George Washington, Daniel Boone, Simon Kenton, George Rogers Clark, Robert Rogers, Frances Marion, or Sam Brady. But then, in that time period, America had many men (and women) who could be in this list.

first, it's sad that someone would say Che Guevara.
I would say Sam Adams, actually. People don't realize that he is more than a bottle of suds. Before the American Revolution, Boston was the frontlines of the freedom social movement, led by the pub-preachings of Sam Adams.
He would give amazing speeches in places such as "The Green Dragon Tavern" where you can still go and have a meal or drink today, to rile the masses and push to begin the war against England.
Other people such as:
Patrick Henry: Gave the "Give me liberty, or give me death," speech.
William Dawes: Rode with Paul Revere to Lexington, but got there 30 minutes later because he had a slower horse (Paul rode "Brown Beauty").
Nathan Hale: After being caught as a spy for the US, he was hung by the British. His last words were "My only regret is that I have but one life to give for my country!"

Malcolm X, he was never understood by the media or some of the public but he was one of the greatest revolutionaries of time. He helped to change the world and got shot 16 times in return. Is that fair?
