Something is inversely proportional to the square of some thing else. That is inverse square law.

For example, Gravitational force of attraction between two masses m1 and m2 is given by

F = G.m1.m2 / r^2 where r is the distance between the centres of the two masses and G is the Gravitational constant.

Radiation intensity also follows inverse square law.

Newton's Inverse Square combines Galileo's Law of falling bodies based on the Empty focus, with Kepler's distance law based on the Sun focus, and is not correct because Newton wrongly assumed that they were both based on Kepler's distance law and the Sun focus. Newton's Inverse Square Law has been dogmatically accepted until very recently, but it is Kepler's distance law which is now accepted as applying throughout the whole universe.

The inverse square law is used to measure the intensity of light.

Intensity is proportional to 1 divided by the distance squared.

For example:
Say the distance [I know it's not but for argument's sake] from the sun to earth is 10m.
Then the intensity is going to be proportional to 1/100.

this law is very simple it can be applied at many a places. In simple words we say that 'A' is inversly proportional to the square of 'B'. then it means that when we change B with a factor 2 then 'A' is changed by a factor 1/(2*2). I think u might be in XI or XII class and this might apply to many laws like coulomb's law, gravitation etc. In these cases it just means that the force is inversly proportional to the square of the distance between two particles

The Inverse square law only applies to gamma rays because they are not densely ionising. The law states that the intensity of the frequency of the wave decreases as the distance increases. So it is written as:

Intensity = (Initial intensity x constant) / distance squared
