Because rain water reacts with chemicals on the ground that have been deposited by wildlife and plants and some that have been blown in by the wind. The reactions give off gases, some of which we interpret as being fresh or clean smelling.

On a warm day, the rainwater evaporates quickly and increases local humidity.

Water is considerd the universal solvent as no other liquid known to man dissolves more substances on the face of the earth. As the rain falls some of it splashes and some evaporates, some of the splashed water droplets containing dissolved substances may be small enough to ramain suspended in the air giving it a scent.

its just simple. here how it goes...
the soil is exposed under the sun. The soil has bacterias, fungi, dust, craps etc. when the rain come down, these things are being washed off leaving with some residues and water. and when the sun shines, these residues would evaporate and causes unnecessary smell that usually causes dyspepsia, (KABAG) etc.

hope i helped^^

fresh rain fall cleans the air of pollution (some) and is refreshed with oxygen which also before the rain the amount of rain in the clouds produce oxygen before it starts to rain cause it is all gathered in the clouds which allows the oxygen to spread all around before it actually rains. thats why people can smell rain before it rains.

it is because when the sunshines towards the road or soil...it absorbs the heat n keeps inside it n become very dry.when the rain pours on this hot objects it releases it's heat n when we inhale the vapour which is given out..so we could smell the air's taste.
