The no.3,4,5 batting order for test matches is sealed by Rahul Dravid,Sachin and Sourabh ganguly, question is who should play in No.6 spot, Yuvraj or Laxman ? Laxman has always been a good test player in foreign conditions, but hasnt played international matches for past 6,7 months (after the southafrican series),also a good slip fielder , Yuvraj has little experience in test matches, but he is the inform batsman,a good fielder and useful slow bowler.Who would you pick?

Comparing laxman and yuvraj is like comparing chalk and cheese.
Laxman is 200% better batsman than yuvraj. The style , the elegance, the grace of his batting is mesmerising to say the least.
One can sit and watch test cricket the whole day watching VVS Laxman play.
Yuvraj is a player of the times, hard hitting, not stylish, not high in techinque it is difficult to see him play people like Akthar, Murali, Mg rath, Warne or Pollock. Nine times out of 10 they will take his wicket.
But times are changing , Laxman is 33 , yuvi is 25 laxman will have to eventually make way for yuvi. So does sachin(34), ganguly (35), dravid(34) have to make way for youngsters sooner than later.
Some one like Mohammed Kaif has to be brought back immediately sooner than later, he is the future of Indian cricket, Kumble (37) has to make way for Piuysh Chawla(18)
In no way the youngsters are better than the seniors but the seniors can at max play for 2 more years. It is difficult to see Sachin, Dravid, Ganguly, Laxman, Kumble play till age of 40.
It was possible when Gavaskar , Vengsarkar were playing there was no 20 20 or hard fielding which is now as important as batting or bowling to win a match. No quick singles or converting singles to twos which many of these stalwarts except Azhar failed to do.

i dont know why people praises Laxman that he is class batsman; if I would have to say that far I will only say batsman without runs. He simply try to play all the balls without thinking that he has to score runs. He is good batsman if u have to draw he will play without any problem. If you dont take risk u will never be out that's what Early Gavaskar, Chauhan or Dravid used to do. They simply stand on the crease for themselves.

Yuvraj has shots but uppish only, he cannot score with grounded ball and that's why he out most of the time but still better than laxman.

Those who have seen Laxman and defend please give some proof of his batting.

I would prefer Yuvi because he is currently inform batsman and also performed well in Ireland conditions. It would help him very much in England.

As you said laxman not played lot international cricket for past few months. It is wise to use yuvi in beginning matches.

No doubt in laxman's class and experience. But yuvi is future asset for indian cricket. he has to be given more oppurtunity.

In the case india win the series early. Laxman can be given a chance and also make him ready playing in warm up games.

When we talk about test cricket it is the ability that matters most... irrespective of the spot. Hence Laxman should be the obvious choice. However Yuvraj can be considered...... in the place of Ganguly.

Lax has always played well at the no.3 position, so he should be permanently allotted that slot. He scored that monumental 281 and all those scores in Austrialia in that position. Sachin at 4, followed by Rahul and then Yuvraj. Saurav's days are numbered.

I will defenitely go for Laxman instead of Yuvaraj Singh in test cricket as Laxman is a better batsman more suited for test cricket.
