Ohhhh I feel so sorry for all you people who got flooded.
I think you have to get humidifiers in to dry out the plaster - or even maybe have it replaced.
Talk to your insurers - they ought to sort ALL this out for you. You shouldn't have to deal with it on top of everything else.
Good luck

I'm very sorry you have to deal with a clean up from a flood. It is hard enough to deal with that sort of disaster let alone have to clean up also. I'm a Executive housekeeper at a large hotel chain. We have never had a flood to deal with but my experiences have given me alot of situations that ended up in mold. Mold starts to go fast, and heat makes it grow faster. Most mold can be cleaned up with a solution of bleach and water. Although staining will occur from the mold if not caught fast enough. Clothing, bedding, furniture, etc., should be discarded...as the mold will continue to grow in these items even if you clean it. If you have home owners insurance they will pay to have it all taken care of. If not, recruit friends , neighbors, family to get the job done quickly! If I knew where you lived, I would surely come to help. I hope this helps.......Good Luck

I would not be concerned how long it takes for mold to start but to get the mess cleaned up. Mold starts in a very short span of time making living quarters very unhealthy. Cleaning will require a lot of elbow grease. If the flooding is bad enough you may want to hire someone with equipment to dry out your house. I wish you all the best. Edith

Be very careful dealing with mold clean up. The CDC has a lot of info on mold. Using bleach on certain types of mold can be more hazardous than the mold itself because it changes the stucture of the mold. Call in a steamer company for carpets, they have a special spray they apply and they are able to extract much more water. I work in construction and have had to remove many carpet pads to prevent mold growth. A shop vac just can't pull water from the pad. You can also get a kit that will test for mold spores in your home.

It started growing before you finished this letter. All you can do is start getting rid of the moisture first, Dry it up as much as possible. Use a lot of bleach and other products that inhibit the growth of bacteria and mold. You don't want diseases around that cause infections.
Good Luck

Sorry to hear that. The mold starts growing immediately, especially in summer with humid warm weather.
Note that it can be killed with bleach solutions, and by the sun.
So open the windows wide, let the sunshine and air in, and get to work with that mop and bucket of bleach.
