I've noticed quite a few answers suggest NOT tipping waiters because there is a service charge. Waiters are generally so poorly paid and usually depend on the tips to make up a good wage for the tiring and patience trying job they do! We always tip 10% wherever we eat, as long as the waiter is polite, clean and adequately efficient. So don't be mean...put yourself in his/her shoes (bunions and callouses and all!) Don't you agree?

10% is the most fair tips for both the waiters and the customers.my wife thinks bigger tips is better to help those poor people, after lots of research, I agreed to pay 10% in the expensive restaurants, and 15-20% in the cofee shops and the low price food chains,I think this is fair

In many European countries waiters are paid rather good.
At least minimum wages but often they get much more.
I often tip after a dinner, but not always, and certainly not when the service is standard or substandard.
Many years ago in the Netherlands they raised the prices in restaurants with 10% or even 15%, so we did not have to tip anymore, and what is more, the waiters did not have to feel like beggers, hoping for a little extra.
Not long after the people started tipping again, but the prices have never gone down anymore.

I know that is some countries the waiters are paid less, but do not assume that that is the case all over Europe.

Service Charge replaces the tip. General there is a service charge with delivery, room service, etc. So no tip.

10% is not cheap for a normal meal, but it's the bare minimum for an adequate job.

0 tip is totally acceptable if for whatever reason you did not enjoy your experience. You should NEVER have to pay for a lousy experience because of a crappy server.

This is only my experience in Germany. We didn't tip because it was included in the bill. But if we did decide to tip it was beer money for everyone who worked that day.

But I do agree that waiters have it bad. They do so much work to make us feel comfortable. They should have a higher wage.

another reason some people, (my boyfriend included) don't like to tip waiters is because in many places waiters are supposed to evenly split their tips amongst the busboys and cooks and they rarely ever do....cooks don't get paid so much more than waiters and they work just as hard! and btw, a "service fee" is a fee for the service the restaurant provides you (the waiter.)
