If, you can remove the caps on top of the battery. Clean it off first and check the water level. Use Distilled water (Buy at many stores) to fill to the proper level. Stator (It works like an Alternator, but, under the flywheel) is on an outboard and you may have to have someone check for you. The "Starter" is on the side of the engine on an Outboard and in/out boards it just like a car. With the battery disconnected you can remove the starter and take to an Auto-Parts store or Starter/Alternator Repair shop and they can check it.

Your alternator may be not charging. If you take a volt meter and ground the black wire to engine block or ground and take the red lead and find the 10 gauge red wire connection at alternator attach it there. Then start engine and check to see if you have a minimum of 12.50 volts .When you rev up engine it should increase. If it stays the same when revving its not charging.
Then its time for rebuilt alternator

Find out what kind of a Eng you have.By a Chilton Eng guide for that type of Eng . Since you did not say if was an inboard or outboard than can't give you any help 2 many choices.

It might seem fine but to check it right you need to check the specific gravity with a hydrometer. or maybe the charger is faulty

msmountain 's suggestion is right on the nose. Also.is his recharger working right? Is there any corrosionon on the terminals or connections of the recharger? Might check it out

diode in the alternator,or the voltage regulator in the alternator,poor connections on the battery,loose nut on the helm seems to be the real problem
