Ok I think that as mortals if you sacrfy others for your survival you end up alone but if you do the other way around we all live happy.

Not to mention that as a sinner you could be forgiven and enjoy eternity...

That is a situational question . . . If you are being threatened by someone truly bent on doing evil (you must do an honest assessment here) then you should seek their demise; however, if you can save other well-intentioned people through your death or destruction, that is a wise and noble sacrifice--what is called the supreme moral sacrifice. Would you give your life to save the life of one of your children or spouse? I hope I can say I would. Would I give my life for my country, or simply to save a large number of average people? I think so. We cannot say for sure until we are in the situation.

I would hope that I would not stand aside for my own safety if I could stop a mad man bent on killing.

sacrifice yourself.
"Sacrifice does not mean offering a human head, an animal or money at the alter. The Lord says in the Gitaji that sacrifice, or yajna, means selfless services to mankind, to all creatures and even to all the elements (Sky, Air, Fire, Water and Earth) that exist in nature. Any action contradictory to this definition becomes a bondage, a self created and self sustained prison."

I strongly believe that you should sacrifice yourself for the survival of others. If everybody felt that way, then in a dangerous situation everyone might survive because everyone's looking out for everyone else.

Well from a biologists standpoint it depends on the relationship between you and the ''others''. If they are immediate family then it is wiser to sacrifice yourself for them. If they are many and they are cousins, nephews and nieces, then it is also wise to sacrifice yourself for them. But if they are unrelated to you then it is unwise to sacrifice yourself for them. But like I said, thats from a biologists standpoint.

offcourse ! the best way is to sacrifice yourself for others but some time according to situation you have to sacrifice others because your life may be important for so many peoples than him/her.
