I'm having a brainfreeze! I've forgotten how to work out the percentage reduction between two prices. The starting price is 4450 and the reduced price is 3575, so what's the percentage discount? How do you work this out? The main problem I have is that I need to calculate a discounted price at the same percentage from a different price.

Thank god it's not Monday or I'd have no chance!

Thanks!

3575/4450 = 0.803 x 100 = 80.34%
so 80.34% is what you paid to find the percentage discount just take from the whole price ie 100%
100 - 80.34 = 19.66%

Actual reduction is 4450 - 3575 = 875

Express this as a fraction of original price

875/4450

to express this as a %age, multiply by 100

875/4450 x 100%, which I`m sure you can manage on your calculator..........?????????????

for the second part, you need to understand the following:

If you are asked to find the discounted price when the discount is [say] 25% ,what you are actually finding is 75% [100% - 25%] of the actual price. In order to find 75% of a quantity, you multiply it by 0.75, that is, 75/100.Hoe this helps, Twiggy

The original value is 4450 and this is the 100%
Subtract the new price which is 3575 thus
4450-3575=875
The price reduced by 875. To express this as a percantage of the original price, divide 875 by 4450 and multiply by 100 which comes to 19.663%

If you want to reduce the price by 20% then sumtract 20% from 100% to leave 80% which means 80 divided by 100 which is 0.8. Now multiply the original price by 0.8.
4450 x 0.8 = 3560

Percentage discount = (4450-3575)/4450 X 100%
=19.66 %

to calculate a discounted price at the same percentage from a different price,
(new price)(100-19.66) / 100

Just take them as a fraction together.

3575 is what part of 4450?

3575
-------- = 0.8034
4450

then convert the decimal to percent by moving the decimal point two places to the right. you paid 80.34% of the total price. so your discount was 19.66% (subtracting from 100%).
