My cousin had a baby last night, the Doctors said she was about 38 weeks. She says she had absolutely no idea she was pregnant. I've heard about women not knowing until they're about 5 or 6 months...but how can you not have any idea and take a baby almost full term??? I'm not trying to say my cousin is a liar I'm just trying to figure out how this could happen...

Note: She'd been having LIGHT periods that weren't out of the ordinary for her throughout the entire pregnancy...

extra note...she IS a bigger girl...about 5'10 and probably 240 lbs. But you still should have been able to see some sort of bump right? (I haven't seen her since February...)

This is just my opinion.. It sounds like she fooled herself into believing that the symptoms of pregnancy.. ie weight gain, swollen breasts, baby kicking and moving, and feeling her abdomen getting heavier, were something else besides pregnancy.. especially if this baby was unplanned and/or unwanted. There are some medical conditions that could have helped her believe she wasn't pregnant but I have to think that at some point she would have gone to see a doctor and they would have figured it out.. It's not like you can miss a really big uterus with a 6-9 pound baby and amniotic fluid and placenta inside, at all unless you're a horrible doctor... I've only seen two cases where the woman said that she didn't know she was pregnant, one said that she thought maybe she was but she had light bleeding during her whole pregnancy and thought that it was impossible to have a period during pregnancy.. the other said that since she was really overweight that it was just more weight gain and lots of gas.. I think that your cousin needs to see a counselor and talk about things.. If she was denying her pregnancy then she has issues that need to be worked out and she needs to really think if she wants to be a mother right now or not.. I hope for her sake she was telling the truth and that everything works out.. Good Luck..

That doesn't seem very likely....it's not like she's hugely obese or anything! I'm 5'6" and weighed about 190 lbs. when I became pregnant. Here at 25 weeks I am obviously showing, I can definitely feel the baby move...and it really feels nothing like gas bubbles, as some people describe it. So no, I doubt that she didn't suspect it. Maybe she was in denial or something.

my friend Brianna didnt know she was pregnant untill she was having her daughter! She had a ulcer in the past and thought it was just stomach pains acting up and she was having light periods and was only about 120 pounds. She had this teeny bump bus she thought it was just gas and stuff, her normal stomach pains. You honestly coulnt tell she was pregnant! And one night she got REALLY bad pains and called the docter who told her to take a hot bath and she ended up giving birth right there in the bathtub! 4 pound little girl! She is now like 8 or 9 and has a little brother who Bri knew she was pregnant w/ and grew enormous!

I've heard of it happening before. Strange, you would think that the little thing MOVING around might clue you in. A lot of people say it just feels like gas pains?? Not my kid, there is no way I could have NOT known!

The one person I know of personally who said that she didn't know, was a meth adict. Very sad. She called in sick to work one day, and said it was because she had a baby... she looked pregnant, but of course, you can't say that to an employee!

She was in denial. Thats the only way a person would not know they were pregnant. She simply did not accept it. Those babies move around a lot and kick you hard - there isnt any way she didnt know but maybe because of a lot of factors she just could not accept the fact-or felt she could not tell her parents until it was a done deal.

I would say it would be hard not to know. Towards 25 weeks pregnant your whole belly would move and turn when the baby moved and rolled about and such and towards 38 weeks you definately would notice. I mean, even if she was a 'big' girl, wouldn't she notice or feel it? Sometimes they kick so hard it hurts!

it happens all the time. im not sure they must be in major denial. i cant imagine what they think is going on. i had a baby and i can tell you towards the end there was no mistaking those kicks and punches and pokes lol i am a very big girl and you could still see him moving from the outside you couldn't tell if it was foot or what but you could see it.

People claim it happens. We had a teacher who had a baby in her tub at home. Said she never knew, her family sure didn't.

My only question is if she didn't know she was having a baby, what did she think she was doing in the bath water? All you moms know what having a baby feels like!

It's either denial or amazing stupidity (please don't be offended) you'd really have to be oblivious to not notice something.

Some women who are overweight sometimes do not know. Especially, if they have other issues going on in the abdomen. She maybe was preoccupied with her life and not thinking about herself and because she had her period she did not think she was pregnant. Who knows. I seen on TV this really heavy woman who was pregnant and she did not know till she went into labor.

That happened to a girl in my dorm when I was in college. She was a big girl and she had thyroid problems which she said always caused her periods to be irregular. The night she had her baby, her roommates called an ambulance because they thought she was dying.
