Regarding the commercial on TV about 'patch perfect' (lawn seeds surrounded in nutrients), does that stuff really work? or is it a rip-off? Any better alternatives?

I am in the construction trade and they have trucks that have sprayed this stuff for years..as well as the highway departments use it too....along side of the roads, especially where they replaced the drainage systems etc....The stuff on the tv is excessively priced for the area it will do.. A whole yard will cost thousands to do... I suggest checking out hardware stores and lumber yards for a bulk bag 40 or 50 pounds(approx 20 kilos) the cost will be cut by 600% this way
