I think they should of kept it without the Communist star over the sickle and hammer.
I just don't see how having a red, white & blue flag as very original.

I never knew that the old Imperial Flag is the new flag again. All I know is that Vladimir Illich Lenin was the leader of the Russian Communist revolution way back and the ship Aurora fired a shot at midnight one day and that started a siege of the Imperial palace and the hunt for the Nobles.

I like the old one, especially when I'm pissing on it. LOL
The red white and blue was simply admission that we (USA) won the cold war.

I like the red flag as well... more because it was so recognizable. The problem is that the entire flag is symbolic, not just the star. The red background is symbolic of the communist party (the Red Russians, who won the October Revolution) as well as the hammer and sickle, which represent the socialist proletariat. The new flags are, I believe, the old flags of the various Republics, so that actually makes them more legitimate to the people who live there and want to express their independence. The fact that the "new" Russian flag is red, white, and blue, I think has nothing to do with the US... it is simply a coincidence. Many of the national flags use those colors, in various patterns, and are not necessarily in tribute to the US. I think they would be offended at the notion.

True the Russians could do better - - - there were several option pre dating the Czardom but alas a certain sentiment crept in - - - the fact is that many Russians credit the Ideas of the French Revolution for inspiring the October Revolution and with the Fall of Communism, that every handy euphemism for an oligarchic dictatorship, anyhow the October Revolution is free from the 'taint' of Communism, the struggle initially seen as a genuine uprising of the people. And France inspired the Revolution. Even amidst the hardships of World War One funds were funneled into fuel the revolution. Russian Revolutionaries sang the French National Anthem and wore tri-color badges and waved tricolor flags.
Probably more than you intended to here. But I agree it is a pedestrian flag. I would opt for yellow fields of grain against orange red sky and yes the sickle & hammer to represent the workers & farmers - - - time for the World to stop hunting down 'commies' & Liberals....

I find the old flag more attractive and motivating but like the poster above me, the entire flag symbolize the old communist regime even if you remove the star.
The recent flag, red, white & blue stripes, was used during the imperial times along with the double-headed eagle.

I did not think the old Soviet flag was particularly attractive. There are lots of countries (e.g. France) which use three-colored flags, so it isn't particularly original, but it is attractively done.

It's like having a Nazi flag as Germany's flag today, how do you like that?
