I love this question as it shows how little information about life in the U. S. is taught in schools.
Alligators are in nearly every body of water in the state of Florida, along with, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Texas and many states farther north.
Yes Florida alligators are found in the ocean. Mostly in Florida Bay which is south of the Everglades. There have been alligators "Body Surfing" on the Atlantic coast shown on newcasts in the past. Not to worry as Life Guards are trained to clear people from the water, just as they do for sharks, when this happens, which might be once every ten years.
Alligators may be seen places where people habit once they are fed by humans. When this happens, paid gator hunters must be called to remove them. Yearly there are cases of gators being found in backyard swimming pools and even yards of homes. Usually this is during mating season.
Alligators don't go out hunting people like we hunt other animals. Most of their time is spent lazying around some swamp waiting on meal time, which may not come for weeks.
We do have lizards that climb trees in Florida. Most of these are around 4 to 6 inches long. Occasionally an Iguana will escape or be released intentionally by their owners to roam the wilds of Florida. These will be the largest lizards found in our trees. If our 1,000,000+ alligators in Florida could climb trees, there wouldn't be 17,000,000 people living here.
Come to Florida and enjoy youself. Just watch yourself crossing the street as that's your greatest danger.
After thought:
Go to Gatorland, south of Orlando on US 17/92-441, and see all the alligators you would like. They may even have some gator you could try for lunch. If not stop off at any Gators Dockside pub and try their Gator Bites for an appitizer. They really do it right.

They are all over the swamps, lakes, wetlands, and some rivers. For some reason, they seem to love golf courses, too. Generally, if you are hiking in the woods and are not close to a large body of water, you won't be near one. They tend to avoid human contact if they can, like most other animals.

There are about a million or so down there. Everglades is full of them. Majority are in the southern part of Florida. I saw a lot in the drainage canals along the highways. There are none on or around the beach since they dont like saltwater. Just dont get too close to swamps and freshwater inland.

Not really . If you go to the Everglades , the ocean , Canals , Rivers , bay or a lake it's a different situation . But , I bet you won't be going to those areas . So , you'll have a great time .
