You know how you celebrate your birthday each year on the day you were born?

Well, America was born on July 4, 1776 after it won it's independence from the British some 231 years ago, and this was made official by the signing of the Declaration of Independence on that date.

Ever since then, we have been known as "The United States of America" and we celebrate the Fourth of July by getting together with our families and enjoying a national holiday where there are celebrations, parades, picnics, barbeques and fireworks displays in the evening...
all for the purpose of recognizing and rejoicing in the birth of America.

The United States began as a colony of England. July 4 is the day Americans commemorate the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 1776, by the Continental Congress, declaring the 13 colonies free of England's rule. It is the day we set aside each year to celebrate the "birth" of our nation.

July 4, 1776 is the day that america signed the declaration of independence from England. We became our own country. Usually everyone goes out and watches fire works and drinks, and a lot of people do not even know when the declaration was signed and they see it as just another day off. Sad really. My family goes out and watched fireworks and then on the way home we stop for frosty's from wendys.

it is the celebration fo america's declaration of indepdndance from england, it's birth if you will. it is similar to canada's celebrations on july 1. usually, people watch fireworks at night, but spend the day enjoying the outdoors and the fact that they have the freedoms they have with their family.
