If you definitely want to start next year, just go off the pill now. It could take a while for your body to regulate itself after being on the pill. Then use the next few months to start charting your cycle. (If you are not sure what to do go to www.mymonthlycycles.com it's a really handy website)
If you are sure you don't want to start trying yet - just use condoms.
I got pregnant the first month we tried with our son and now after 'waiting' a year or so after him, trying to time these things, I am still not pregnant and it's been about 15 months. I wish I had never have waited because if something doesn't happen soon we are giving up - we are heartbroken.
When you have a child already, and you can't have another it really rubs salt into the wounds because you know what you are missing out on by not having more.

For some women, it takes a while to get regular again after being on the pill. You may wish to consult your doctor and perhaps switch to another method, like a diaphragm.

I assume that you have not had any children. Therefore you have not proved your fertility.I see no point in changing pills if you have one that you are satisfied with. When you decide to have baby ,stop pill, wait until your cycle is regular and then try.I suggest that you wait until cycle is regular because in all probability you are then ovulating.initially after stopping pill your cycle maybe irregular because you have not yet started to ovulate. After stopping pill take folic acid before and whilst trying for pregnancy.I assume that you have been immunised against rubella. If not then be immunised while on pill. After trying for 6 months if no success see doctor for assessment
