Like it's always been like that, since the past or 50s,60s, 70s, and so on. Like American manufacturers want there cars to look European or Japanese. Like what ever happened to good old American cars that had aesthetics and glamor, and now American cars look cheap and have boring looks just like any other car on the streets today. I like the cars of the 1950s and 1960s because they represented Americana, like they had looks, performance, comfort, Safety, handling, and reliability. so those were the good years, So wish American cars could go back to there glamor just like the past. So what do you think?

I like the 50's and 60's cars too. Back then when gas was cheap the US car manufactures didn't have to worry about aerodynamics, emissions or gas mileage. They could make beautiful monstrous cars with lots of chrome. In the 80's and 90' fuel economy and emissions became an important factor and the imports which had been making fuel efficient smaller cars in the 70's now have had more experience building what America wanted.

Also back then American cars were built for America. European and Japanese cars were built for the rest of the world. Now American cars manufactures are designing cars for the world market. They have to copy European and Japanese designs just to stay in business.

This is a hard question to answer because it involves a lot. But basically it's this....the Japanese now dominate the car industry. It would be inevitable for the compeition to follow suit with what the Japanese are doing(if they wanted to stay in buisness), so unique designs are starting to disappear. Once the Japanese won the car wars here in America, that's when our designs started to change. Iroincally, it was an American, W. E. Deming, that taught the Japanese to become the power they are today...especially the car industry.
He taught management and engineers quality methods and techniques. His teachings dramatically altered the economy of Japan, and of course made a huge impact on the development of the Toyota Production System, which is the starting point for Lean (lean is a type of manufacturing system).

actually the aero styling started here in the US. witness the 1983 ford thunderbird, and the 1986 ford taurus as two examples. when you have to build cars that get good fuel economy, good performance, and low emissions, you need a low drag coefficient. this means that while you will find a few styling differences, the styling in general is going to end up similar across all manufacturers. i agree though that these days there is really no soul left in automobiles like there was in the 50's and 60's, and even into the 70's and early 80's.

Big chrome grilles and tail fins were ok in their day, but now people want practical, aerodynamic styling. Some of Chryslers' current models have a definite retro look.

Because European looking cars are "selling", & American looking cars- are NOT. ...Just wait; in a couple of years the first cars from CHINA will be coming over here- & we're gonna see how fast GM starts "taking THAT hint..." :)

Unfortunately, your tastes are in the minority.

Their tests indicate people like the styling from europe and japan.
