Absolutely delighted. First thing I heard when turning on TV. Isn't it amazing how good news can have such a positive effect on people who don't even know lan Johnston personally. It's wonderful to get good news like this for a change.

I am. But I wonder if Hamas sought his freedom- so as to score "brownie points" with the British Government, seeing as how Tony Blair will soon be trying to put together a Peace Settlement in the area... But right NOW, I'm sure that that's the LAST thing on Mr. Johnston's mind... :)

Very happy to hear this, great to have good news! I wish I'd been the police officer who'd gone round to his family to break the good news - I'd have brought a big bottle of champagne with me! Interesting to hear about his experiences as a captive, and his excitement that he can't believe he is never going to have wake up in captivity again. Well done to Hamas, whatever their motives - maybe it is true that only other Muslim groups like Hamas can properly deal with Middle East terrorists, rather than the UK and the US making things worse? (however dubious Hamas are themselves they clearly have strategies to deal with this stuff which beats our tactics)

Yes, Indeed. But let's remember that it was a threat of violence, not diplomacy, that finally got the job done. This pattern has been repeated throughout history, in particular where the middle east is concerned.

OF COURSE YES!!!!!!

Thank the lord. When things like this happen we need to turn a negative into a positive - for god sake open a dialogue with Hamas and let's work something out. I know they have killed and are terrorists but so are the jews - we need to move on a work out peace in the Middle East NOW. Not ignore their gesture

It's nice he's not dead. There would have been terrible implications if a reporter as sympathetic to the Palestinian cause - however extreme - was considered at real risk.
Less partial journalists wouldn't have stood a chance then really.
I wonder how much his release cost?

It's great news. Perhaps there is reason to hope that common sense and sanity will now get a foothold in the Hamas regime.
