He was both.
There is a fine line between insanity and genius. Earlier in his life, Hitler was genius, and would probably have conquered the planet if he didn't end up going insane.

Don't get me wrong, I am in no way condoning the horrible things he did, but if he would have utilized less aggressive and less violent methods, he might have succeeded.

We are still discovering crazy technology that Hitler had his scientists working on, that people could not believe they were workign on at that time. Many people speculate, that if they would have perfected even a few of the things they were developing, nothing would have stopped him.

Both. Genius and insanity are not mutually exclusive.

Hitler's deeds exemplify the very worst acts in human history. They should be viewed clearly as insane, deviant, and absolutely lacking in respect for human life.

If he achieved other goals, or if he had talents, what of it? He is so fouled, so covered in blood and agony, that even to consider his good qualities is evil. It becomes, not a search for a "diamond in the rough," but an indictment of the researcher. Why would we want to redeem a mega-murderer? Even if history were to declare him innocent by the "insanity plea," it changes nothing.

He was a great speaker. Regarding military tactics, he had flashes of brilliance, followed by periods of frenzied, fixated delusions. He understood the German spirit very well.

And he will forever be the personification of torture and mass murder.

he was an insane genius. i mean, his way of exterminating those that he didn't like was horrible. but he seems to be the only person in the world at that time that had the balls to say what he felt and be able to rise to power using manipulation and propaganda. you have to admit, he was a pretty clever son of a *****.

...and he had some pretty good paintings too. so i guess that counts toward "genius"

Insane, however insane people can accomplish more than most sane people. Its scary to think about but true on so many levels.

Read Mien Kampf, He invents words, clearly the mark of someone who holds themselves in such high esteem the only way to describe them is insane.

Hitler was a psychotic who was on heavy drugs injected by his private doctor at least 3-4 times a day. He should have been shot before he gained power.

Hitler suffered from untreated syphilis. It was in its later stages where syphilitic insanity is a common outcome. His actions bear out the conclusion that he was clearly insane.

both

Some of his ideas were genius but marred and twisted by his own hatred of himself and others. Nothing is a excuse for what he did, or the people that allowed him to do it.

hitler is like bush in that they r both merely the face of an agenda. most leaders today do not act autonomously; but act to serve an agenda put forth by the people that have bought said leaders administration.

Nazi Buff,

Doesn't your name say it all? Are you an admirer of the Nazis and Hitler?

There is nothing to admire about Hitler and the Nazis. There is no excuse and no extenuating circumstances for their crimes against humanity.
