In a nutshell... there's more religiosity in the US than in Europe. The US has puritanical cultural roots that persist to this day, combined with a much stronger evangelical and fundamentalist movement.
So while Europeans for the most part see the human body for what it is, Americans tend to see it through the lens of sexuality and sinfulness. At least, enough Americans do to impact the legal and media environment.
Male nudity is suffers twiceover in the US because of it's associated not just with sexuality, but homosexuality.

I see that in america that male nudity is associated with sexual overtones and being what is so wrongly labeled a "pervert." most ppl think a nude male in public is looking to rape or molest everyone, but to those of us who enjoy being free with earth and being as created are not looking for sexual pleasure, while being nude its a freedom of self expression and religious desire to be free as can be as we were created.
The american society is to engrossed being politically correct and ruled by the religious right and non tolerant of the freedoms of human expression to allow male nudity on TV or elsewhere. unless your go to a few nude beaches or belong to a nude resort.
The Romans, Greeks almost all ancient cultures had no problem with male nudity the olympics were held in the nude
the vatican has naked paintings and sculptures, the chinese have ancient nude drawings and paintings of nude male figures.
Only since the victorian age and the age of religious intolerance IE : Christianity/ Jewish/ Islamic faith guidlines has being nude become taboo for males and by some degree female nudity.
personally I have no problem with nudity in public in person, broadcast, or print mediums
america needs to become more enlightened by the European view of public nudity and retire the indecency laws to the trash bin of history

Puritan values that still have overtones in our society. Remember, settlers came to America to get away from all of the fun that they were having in Europe. Damn pilgrims ruined it all for us. I love the openness that Europe has.

I think we're going back into Sinoha's times. We've forgotten that we are civilized and living in the 21st century and the most important one we've forgotten that we are human beings not .... .
Europeans deal with it more rationally I suppose!
