For those of you that still believe in us here is a bit of American Humor I do hope you understand it...I being from Missouri had to laugh when a friend sent this to me. If we can't laugh at ourselves then we are a sad lot.
Today is our Birthday July 4, 1776 -2007
231 years from mother country. I appreciate each and every one of you that took the time to reassure me about our status. I can only choose 1 winner and it will be difficult. I'd like to pick all of you.
.........HUMOR BELOW.....................
Name Change
Because of the climate of political correctness now pervading in America , those of us in Arkansas and Missouri will no longer be referred to as HILLBILLIES.
We ask that you now refer to us as
OZARK-AMERICANS.
Thank you!
.........Note........
Here in the US the rest of the states call us the hillbillies! LOL

I see this so much on here, and I just want to say that we visit the UK all the time, and the people there are very kind and have never given me the impression that they hate Americans or think were trash!
We're a Military family stationed in Italy, so we're always touring Europe, and we receive nothing but warm welcomes from every European Country we have been to. People over here are unbelievably friendly!

Every book i have read that takes place in England ,or other countries, that are written by authors from various countries, the opinion is not good! Either we're from Texas with boots and cowboy hats, or the cute tourists from Kansas who are presented as so naive, they can't change American Dollars into Euro!!
It is our own fault too, we think we rule the world, and that we can say or do whatever we please as to the customs of the peoples of other countries, and we come off sounding condescending! I used to think when I was reading these books' That is'nt what we are like, so why write us like that?' But anymore, I can see why! Look at how we are being presented to the world now,by our illustrious president! Well, I rest my case!

No , of course not. You're a huge nation with a massive population of diverse people. However politics ( the British mainland had to deal with terrorism in the form of the IRA decades before September 11th and that can be overlooked) and focus on celebrities (Paris Hilton finds god? ) can give the USA a skewed image.

No. not everyone believes that & people who do don't believe that all Americans are like that. Maybe the media is to blame. There is good & bad everywhere & in everyone. Bush does seem to be seen as a bit of a stereotype tho'. Of course people in the UK have had Tony Blair!

I think the opposite, but George Bush taking Tony Blair down the same path has not done the U.S. any favours

It depends on how narrow minded someone is. Americas a big big place, there's lots of "white trailer trash" but there's alot more really good people.

Most of what we think about America is based on American TV shows... not always a good thing, maybe ?
