I would peek out the window first. If I thought that I could take you in a fight, should the need arise, I might open my main door, but leave the screen closed as an unspoken, mental barrier until I've had the chance to talk to you for a few minutes.

I never answer my door to "knocks" if I'm not expecting somebody. After all the person could pull a gun once you opened up.

it depends if i know you for a long time i would open the door and if i don't know i would not open the door it is to dangerous to open the door with out knowing who it is
