"Happy Birthday America, This Is Your Day"

It was the Fourth of July !! The100th birthday of our great nation. KANSAS had a separate building for its display at the Centennial Exposition in Philadelphia in 1876, and Matt Dillon and his girlfriend , Sunshine MacGillicutty, proudly attended. Not only was it to be a grand day of festive activities, it was also a vacation for the hard working U.S.Marshal and his hard working farmer/girlfriend.
Matt:"Do you realize how fortunate we are to be Americans? "
Sunshine:"Tell that to the those who bad mouth our government, Matt. I've ALWAYS known that! (4) In dreams you can spread your wings and be whatever you want to be, in America. The great thing is.......Your dreams can really come true! She saluted the flag as they passed by. Although a Southern who had witnessed the near destruction of her beloved Virginia, and who had lost a husband in the war, Sunshine was coming to terms with all her feelings. She was a proud Virginian and she was a proud American.

Matt felt a hand on his shoulder....It was George T. Anthony, Governor of Kansas.
The Gov:"MATT!! It's good to see you." They shook hands. "And this must be the reason you have such a big smile on your face." He smiled as he shook hands with Sunshine.
Matt:"Gov. Anthony, we were just about to take a walk. Care to join us?"
The Gov:" Thank you, no, Matt. (2) I go out walking after midnight....Fewer crowds, fewer problems for my security agents." They talked on a bit and then parted company.

Matt:"Hey, Sunny. Before we go out tonight for dinner and the fireworks display, let's go back to the hotel,okay....Catch a little nap? (3) The long and winding road that follows the river's edge is so picturesque."
Sunshine:" Mind if I edit that suggestion, baby?" Matt smiled and hugged her to him.
Matt:"Somehow I KNEW you would!"
Sunshine:" Okay....That was Plan B. Here is PLAN A. We go back to the hotel .....By the QUICKEST MEANS POSSIBLE. Thennnnnnnnnnnnnn.......We don't actually take a nap, per se."
Matt:"Hmmmmmm......... Well what DO we do, per se?!" He was beginning to pick up his pace. Sunshine whispered her thoughts in his ear.......Matt broke out in a trot!!!

When they reached the hotel, they giggled all the way down the hall to their room. Once inside, Matt held her to him and started unbuttoning her dress.( Gawd! The authoress has heart palpitations!) Sunshine jumped on the bed.
Matt:"Let me just clean up a bit, sweetie." By the time he joined her under the sheets, she was half asleep. "Sunny?
Sweetie?"
Sunshine:"Oh, Matt....I can't keep my eyes open ..... I'm so slee........"
Matt:"You just go to sleep, darlin.'"
Sunshine:" But I don't want to miss anything, baby."
Matt smiled and cuddled her.
Sunshine:" Well........(5) whenever I want you all I have to do is dream." He kissed her gently on the cheek.
Sunshine:(1) "Sweet Dreams of you are almost as good as the real thing, baby."

By the time they woke up they knew it was too late to get a buggy and go to the fair grounds . They ordered room service and stayed in.
Matt:"Are you sad that we won't be celebrating at the fair?"
Sunshine:" We can celebrate right here, Matt." She leaned off the bed and put her plate and silverware on the floor.
"Come here, baby. It's time for us to light some firecrackers of our own!"

I go out walking after midnight. It is an odd practice. One that has the neighbours gossiping. Yet if I refrain, the long and winding road calls to me, and I am compelled to its barren company. I think while I walk. Some might call it dreaming, for in dreams you can spread your wings. That is what the road is for: a place to dream sweet dreams of you, my lost love. Nowadays, whenever I want you, all I have to do is step out of my front door.

In my dreams, whenever I want you, all I have to do is imagine us together, and there we are.
In my sweet dreams of you, you and I go out walking after midnight.
In dreams, you can spread your wings, and our love doesn't seem like such a long and winding road;
it's like floating through the air with not a cloud in sight.
I wish the dreams were endless and we could be together all the time.
But time goes on and each waking hour I feel how hard reality can bite.

Carl Johnson lived alone in a house that was entirely too large for him. It was an old house, built on a hillside, with a wonderful view of a green, winding street far below the back windows. Carl sometimes thought he needed to sell the house and move into something smaller, but he loved the parquet floors, the arched doorways, and the period light fixtures.

Carl had fallen in love with Hyacinthe Ringrose, a beautiful woman who was clever, bright, and witty. Hyacinthe seemed to be fond of Carl as well, but because of their jobs and family obligations, their relationship, by necessity, remained somewhat distant.

Nightly, Carl sat down to write a letter to his beloved Hyacinthe, trying his best to convey to her his affections, without unduly alarming her and scaring her away.

After his nightly letter, Carl would trudge down to his bedroom. It was a large, magnificent room with an attached dressing room of equal size, separated by an arched division wall. Carl had selected simple, tasteful bedroom furniture that was massive enough that it would overwhelm a typical bedroom, but looked perfectly proportional in his large rooms. Outside the door was a master bath and a sitting room that opened onto a deck at the back of the house.

Carl would go down to his bedroom with thoughts of Hyacinthe churning in his head, and emotions swirling within his heart. His intense thoughts of her often made him feel that much more alone, there in his bedroom. He often wrote to her that "whenever I want you, all I have to do is dream. In my dreams, I can hear the sound of thunder, and it makes me feel closer to you. In dreams, you spread your wings, and the distance between us vanishes, and we hold each other closely."

Some nights, Carl's thoughts of Hyacinthe were so intense that he could not sleep. When that happened, he would dress and go for a walk. In his letter the following night he would tell her that, "I go walking after midnight, along the long and winding road on which I live. Sometimes, I imagine it leads me to you."

But always, at the end of his letters, Carl would tell Hyacinthe that he would enjoy "Sweet dreams of you," and how much he looked forward to writing her again the next night, because it made him feel closer to her.

Patsy Cline met up with a singular beatle one night, they talked for a while, discussed the day's events and decided to leave as brothers, both wishing the best for each and promising, every night, to dream.
