My hubby and I went to Hearst in March for our anniversary, it was so nice! We stayed in Morro Bay about 20 min south of Hearst, the coastal drive up was gorgeous! We stayed at a place called the Ascot Suites, beautiful rooms, not too horribly pricey. They have a lot of ocean view rooms too.

Morro Bay has a lot of little shops and lots of resturants from cheap to flashy. There is a great Chinese buffet there too.( Golden China Restaurant - more info »
500 Embarcadero, Morro Bay, CA
(805) 772-1838 ) On Saturday afternoons they have a small street fair with fresh kettle corn and an amazing goat soap lady, I wish I had bought more!!
I you like antique-ing there is a place between Morro and Hearst called Cayucos, I still can't pronounce it! It is antique stores up and down the street, and right on the beach.
We took the tour of the upstairs, I think it was tour 2, if you have never been there take the intro tour and try to take #2 also, it is worth it.
Have fun, bring a camera!

Cambria is a beautiful little town that has a really great italian restaurant. We visited twice while we lived in the San Diego area. There are many nice hotels as well, some right on the water. The seals like that area of the coast, so make sure to look for them. Have fun!

Whenever we go there we stay at the Sand Pebbles Inn in Cambria.
It's located at 6252 Moonstone Beach Dr., Cambria, CA. It's right on the ocean with beautiful views and a board walk along the sand. go to www.sandpebblesinn.com
Have fun!

Depending on your budget, there are several excellent motels right near the entrance. On the ocean side of Highway l, they are more expensive than the inland side. We really enjoyed the modest price at the Sands.
The Best Western Cavalier Resort is the nicest.

Oooh.
I JUST got back from there.
I stayed at Quality Inn. It's only 4 miles away from the castle.
It was a nice hotel, I would recommend it.
Have fun =]
