I've heard this as well. Although, It would not surprise me if it was true, I don't know of any actual evidence that he did this. If these pregnancies happen before he announced polygamy to Emma and the church members he would definitely need to cover his tracks.

I've heard this before too, but before you make judgements there are some things you have to understand. There are many flaws with this story. Back then (1830s and 1840s) women had to wait for at least two months to confirm they were pregnant. In almost every version of the story that I have heard, these women were prostitutes, so how in the world would they know who the father is, especially when so much time had to pass? Yes, they might suspect they were pregnant, but a lot of women can skip periods and not know why. (Just look at the questions on this website and you will see.)

I myself don't believe the story. I think it's just something that someone came up with to try and discredit Joseph Smith and no the LDS church does not advocate abortion.

You mean, John Bennett, who was excommunicated for "spiritual wifery" (taking mistresses that he told the women God let him have) and then getting so angry with Joseph Smith that he was willing to do just about anything to get rid of him?

I'd take anything Bennett said with a pound or two of salt.

Post this in religion. We're a bunch of pregnant or trying to conceive ladies, not Mormon history buffs.
