i was watching a documentary. i heard a lady in england say that people must "give up freedom in order to be free".
HUH!!??
this is one of the most chilling statements i have ever heard.
i hope there are few out there that "think" this way.

ben franklin said something to the effect; anyone that would give up freedom for safety deserves neither.

psu840- this is classic orwellian doublespeak. you can't give up freedom in order to be free any more than you can jump in a lake in order to keep dry.
1+1 still equals 2!! no matter how hard you and your ilk try and make it add up to 3.

The Patriot Act II erodes the freedoms that this country was supposedly founded upon. This entire "War on Terror" is nothing more than an excuse to squash the civil liberties of the citizens of this country. No more "terror" episodes are needed; the puppet masters have you right where they want you.

:-(

That quote is fairly correct. To be completely protected, you must let the government who protects you get all the information they can, which will probably be invade your privacy.

There are more then a few. Most of them are on the left.

No one would, or should, but sometimes when you vote for someone other than Ron Paul, you will NOT have a choice on what you give up. Ron Paul stands for freedom and liberty. Check him out

We shouldn't give up freedom but we also shouldn't do away with all laws and policies that protect our freedoms or shrug away any thoughts of improving them. It's a complex balance.

This sort of panic is a victory for terrorism. Once you give up freedoms you never get them back.
