Don't you guys realize your largest trading partner and most trusted neighbour has the world's second largest supply in the Alberta Tar Sands? So why all this need to look to the Middle East for something you have at your doorstep?

Well, when I was a kid there was this Crisco incident!

Just kidding, I think we should explore some resource options here at home myself, not just oil, but different ideas as well.

Because it's difficult, time consuming, and takes a great deal of energy to extract oil from tar sand, not to mention devastating to the local environment. It also only avoids the inevitable exhaustion of the resource. Why continue to pollute when we can find a green alternative that benefits everyone?

It is very expensive to harvest that oil from the tar sands (as opposed to the middle east)

Also, Canada doesn't want thousands of oil rigs in their backyard. Preserving nature is much more important.

Shale or tar oil is the hardest to refine and the poor o oil companies will not make as much profit.

Consider this:
In a future war, who will be the victor?
A. the country that has plenty of oil fields left unexplored, or
B. the country that has already sold most of their oil reserves, or used them, and has to buy it from the country mentioned in A?

Leaving our oil in the ground, is the most strategically intelligent thing we can do.
